Overview
Our beloved Summer Solstice is named for the beginning of the season and the longest day of the year, when Earth’s North Pole is tilted closest to the Sun. This offering is built specifically for all day, every day drinking. It’s unapologetically fruit forward and refreshing. Think pool / beach / river days. Think grillin & chillin. It’s a celebration of the days that feel as if they go on forever. Summertime!
The original vision for the flavor profile of this coffee was to embody something refreshing, vibrant, and fun. Our blends are always created with balance in mind, so it’s guaranteed to shine any way you brew and always please a crowd. And of course, it's particularly delicious iced!
This season we’ve arrived at a 50/50 blend of our natural processed Ethiopia, Bookkisa, and washed processed Colombia from Didier Ortega. You’ll taste Bookkisa’s influence in the silky white sugar sweetness and fruit punchy flavors like red grape and raspberry. Didier Ortega adds layers of brightness and complexity via citrus, honey, and tropical fruits. Each coffee brings unique elements that synchronize to create intensely sweet and lively flavors in the final cup. We’re tasting: orange wine, mango, pineapple, plum, strawberry, cherry, vanilla, honey, tepache, cinnamon, butterscotch, sugarcane, sweet tea, milk chocolate.
Brewing
Summer Solstice should produce a cup that’s complex and elegant. We’re enjoying this offering most at an open 1:17 (coffee:water) brewing ratio and a relatively coarser grind, which allows some of the high end floral and tropical fruit flavors to shine. However, at finer grinds and tighter brew ratios, you’ll find an equally pleasing brown sugar sweetness and concentrated fruit flavor like peach cobbler. Lots of flavor to explore!
If your brew is aggressively bitter and sticky, like oversteeped black tea - try grinder coarser.
If your brew is lacking sweetness and slightly sour, like under ripe fruits - try grinding finer.
